Powerful servers
Dell PowerEdge servers use a combination of hardware and software features, such as Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which helps making it simpler for IT administrators to harden servers against unauthorized access. Some encryption solutions expose the files' metadata so the administrator can see the files and move them as necessary - but unless the administrator has the encryption key, they cannot actually see the private data in the files.

The TPM is a chip on the system board that helps to store encryption keys securely, digital certificates and other security data in protected memory located within the chip or in encrypted files. The safeguards built into the TPM integrate with the server system to help make it significantly more difficult for an attacker to compromise that other key storage options.

PowerEdge servers offer extensive BIOS-level control over the entire system. Through the system setup screen, administrators can enable or disable nearly every system interface - from CD and floppy disk drives to USB and serial ports. This feature combined with lockable chassis, such as PowerEdge R900, increases the server security and makes it extremely difficult for anyone to connect an unauthorized device directly to the server.

Dell PowerEdge tower servers may accommodate up to ten hard drives with a total of 10 TB storage area and up to twelve DIMM memory banks (max. 48 GB RAM). Thanks to these specifics and an optional internal tape drive, the system will expand as your company grows.

With Dell PowerEdge rack servers you will use up the available space up to the last inch. By stacking servers vertically instead of placing them next to each other, you will save valuable premises. Dell PowerEdge rack servers are perfectly suited for every use from a corporate server up to a datacenter database server.
Both chassis of Dell PowerEdge servers excel with a variety of unique features securing their high availability, such as integrated RAID controller with a battery backuped memory or hot-plug redundant power supplies and fans that further reduce server outages. The latest product line supports RAID 6 and 60 levels. Therefore, compared to RAID 5 level, up to two drives may fail without loss of the data integrity on remaining two hard drives.

Dell Remote Assistant Card 5 (DRAC 5) is the hardware component of the Dell remote-access architecture. It is designed to provide IT administrators with continuous access to servers even if the server is turned off or is experiencing a software failure such as crash or a hang. With the DRAC and management console, administrators can perform many server management activities remotely, which can help to reduce labor and to simplify maintenance.

The Dell OpenManage suite consists of management applications for Dell PowerEdge servers that help IT administrators to easily manage servers by performing tasks such as reviewing server status and inventory, configuring BIOS, setting actions based on events, and turning servers or on off. Together with Dell OpenManage IT assistant, the suite monitors and manages the power usage - detailed report shows amperage per power supply, peak power and peak amperage per server or the total energy comsumption per server or the entire group of servers.

Dell OpenManage tools are normally delivered to all Dell Latituted laptops as well as to Dell Precision mobile workstations. OpenManage IT assistant is designed for administration of Dell Latitude laptops, Dell OptiPlex desktops and Dell Precision workstations. It offers advanced options of remote administration, BIOS update or remote system switch on/off through wake-up LAN technology to administrators.
Energy Smart servers
Dell Energy smart servers are designed to improve efficiency, lower your cost of ownership and reduce the environmental impact of your company. The Dell PowerEdge Energy Smart 2950 server is up to 25 % more efficient than our regular servers (3). The Dell M-Blade servers are up to 19% more energy efficient that the HP Blade System c-Class and up to 12 % more efficient than IBM Blade Center H.

By reducing power consumption adn expanding computing capacity, you may be able to forego building a new data center by doing more with the one you already have.

Dell's Data Center capacity Planner helps you to better understand the power and cooling requirements for a variety of servers and storage equipment. Visit the following link to learn more about your power draw:
