Green technology
There are many ways how to lower the IT running costs - from purchase of less expensive equipment or cutting the overhead costs incurred with its maintenance to investment into high efficiency power devices.

Besides costs generated by power consumption, there are other expenses connected to cooling of a generated heat. The cooling requires more powerful air conditioning systems. Due to these considerable differences, consumption at large corporations represents thousands of KWh saved annually. Dell products excel with a premium power management system. Compared to competitive vendors, they offer not only power draw reduction by tens of percents, but their Energy Smart settings can be set up and monitored remotely, at any and every networked computer.

The Dell Client Manager is a suite of proactive system tools which allows you to set power management policies across your entire install base. You can turn off monitors and hard drives, activate hibernation or standby settings, and inventory client systems - all from your desktop.
Latest generation of Dell workstations and laptops certified for Energy Star 4.0 logo reduce power consumption up to 78 percents during regular office work compared to the previous line. Such a radical reduction has been achieved due to a new design of power supplies, featuring up to 80 percent efficiency (therefore only 20 percent of energy drawn remains unused).

Difference in consumption between a common (unbranded) computer equipped with AMD Sempron 3500+ and Dell OptiPlex 330 running Dual Core E2180 comes to 130 W per hour. In other words, companies favoring Dell systems save annually up to 270 kW of energy.
tips for you
Are you confident that your electricity bill can not be reduced any more and natural resources preserved with your existing computer equipment? Look around. How many workstations revert to screensaver when abandoned? It is usually also not necessary to let your workstation running when employees leave for the night.

Average workstation power draw ranges around 90 W. Laptops surpass even that mark with an average oscillating around 15-25 W. A workstation with an activated hibernation mode consumes roughly 3-5 W, laptops 3 W per hour. And all of that can be done right away in a few easy steps.
